The (free) Dirty Denim workshop
The process used to denim jeans is a dirty one, requiring thousands of litres of water and cocktail of chemicals just to make one pair. Verity says “The irony is that at the end of the manufacturing process many manufacturers will throw extra chemical treatments into the mix just to make the jeans look old, dirty or distressed”. Tamara and Verity have taken up the challenge to create new practical art works that don’t impact the world but make sure heads still turn in stylish admiration.
The one off workshop will be set up in a studio format with a hand stitching room and wet screen printing room. Participants will be able to roam between settings and get dirty, learning new skills in textile printing, hand sewing and patchwork. In the three hours of recycling crafting workshop participants will have their own new denim bag creation – just perfect for handmade Christmas gift giving.
