Hand Crafted Landscape at Ararat Regional Art Gallery May & June 2009
Hand Crafted Landscape uses an array of evocative seasons within textile relationships and domestic traditions; a handmade quilt is playfully draped over chairs inviting imaginary childlike exploring; other sewn works lightly caress the wall, their nakedness unashamed; some are haunting wall papers, of unsettling dreamed escape, some are the unflattering daily reminders of the things we must do. In all the stitched works the imperfection of the hand and its crafts is very present. The stitching detail and the stitched mishaps a metaphor for a life lived and imagined on the land.
